Ethicon, LLC - Johnson & Johnson Company

  • Managed the HR function, consisting of four HR Professionals and two office support staff in this medical devices manufacturing operation with 1,200 employees on three shifts. 

  • Oversaw biannual succession planning process for 100 exempt employees, resulting in formalizing development plans.  More aggressive plans were devised for high potential staff to expedite their growth. 

  • Managed college recruiting efforts for the San Lorenzo plant to feed the talent needs of the entire organization including manufacturing plants in Texas, Georgia, and New Jersey, focusing on top ten U.S. universities.  Improved the quality of services provided by Johnson & Johnson Shared Services Organization, which included Health & Wellness, Safety, and Dispensary.   

1996 - 1999

Employee Relations Manager 
Hanes Menswear, Inc. – Sara Lee Corporation

  • Managed the division’s HR function, consisting of five HR Managers supporting 3,500 employees in five plants across the island in this $600MM international underclothing manufacturing operation.

  • Served as interim Human Resources Director for nine months.

  • Initiated the first formalized recruitment process based on Behavioral Interviewing.  The Targeted Selection System® was implemented to fill all managerial and executive positions.

  • Oversaw the handling of human resources related legal issues minimizing the use of outside consultants saving the company financial resources.

  • Audited all facilities to ensure compliance with EEO/AAP regulations maintaining zero grievances.

  • Published the first Employee Manual.

  • Developed Supervisory Skills Program for exempt employees; designed effective development plans and coordinated raining coursed with 96% of the population completing the established goal of 48 hours of training in the first year.

1994 - 1996

  • Reorganized and directed HR Team consisting of two HR Professionals, two nurses, and five office support staff.

  • Conceived, developed, and administered a teamwork-training model for the HR department that was later implemented as a pilot in a manufacturing line.  Administered teamwork-training programs for managers, supervisors, and line staff to support the model.

  • Enhanced Hanes Menswear, Inc. presence in the community by developing a community committee composed of government agencies and non-profit organizations to improve the quality of life in the Ponce area.  Annual activities were coordinated to benefit children and the homeless.

  • Supervised hourly personnel recruitment and administrative procedures of the Human Resources Department in these five shifts, seven days a week textiles manufacturing operation with 600 employees.

  • Developed Employee Involvement committees, improving employees’ participation and ownership.
